Bedtime

BEDTIME ROUTINE

  • In the 9pm-11pm timeframe when you’re ready to go to bed, here’s the routine:

    • Bribe them onto the porch with a treat, then make sure they go out into the yard and pee

    • When they come back in, place a very small amount of dry food in each of their dishes. (It’s their bedtime thrill).

    • Turn lights off in the main house and bring them to their beds, tucking blankets under their chins (their signal to “chill out”).

    • You can hang out in bed with the light on as long as you want before going to sleep.

      • One (or both) of them occasionally wakes us in the middle of the night, needing to pee/poop. (The signs: Tina whines at you. Or Ellen stands outside the bedroom door and starts “humming.”)

  • We haven’t had problems with skunks, possums etc. in this new house (knock wood) but there are flashlights if you wanna check the yard before letting them out there.

    • Worst-case scenario — under the kitchen sink are the magic de-skunking ingredients: dish soap, baking soda, and hydrogen peroxide. May you never need to use them.
